I let my friends talk me into seeing this film with them because I think Amanda Seyfried is adorable and I had high hopes that this supposedly adult re-imagining of a children's folk tale would be entertaining in the same aspect of Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow...how disappointed I was.

The acting was so corny and so ridiculous although I can't help but feel that it's not entirely the fault of the actors, but the director. The dialogue was so incredibly cheesy that at several points throughout the movie, groans were heard throughout the audience. Visually, the film is beautiful but the plot is choppy, the romance scenes are cringe worthy, everything about this film was just painful. Shiloh whatever his name is has a constant sneer/smirk on his face that makes his character so annoying. And the other love interest was just plain dull. Seyfried is a perfect Red Riding Hood but she brings nothing to the film other than her constantly doe eyed, surprised expression.

I just saw this film as part of an IFP preview screening. The story is about one girl's guilt over destroying a family via a car accident and how she reconciles this guilt by reaching out to another world - very emotional. Anyone who sees this film will be looking at their watch wondering whether Brit Marling (actress & co-writer) is famous yet.

In the Q & A, a Russian-accented man asked about the physical possibilities of the story and it's holes. The audience collectively rolled their eyes. If you have a Phd in physics, this film may irritate you. Otherwise, it's fine.

Unfortunately it was a bad choice, I think, for director Mike Cahill to also be the cinematographer. Lots of bad zooms, weird shots, and amateur lighting which were irritating. Still, that can be overlooked and this is a great film.

A decent comic book adaptation of the DC comic book character Green Lantern.
It's certainly not as bad as some critics have made it out to be.
It's fun, the action sequences are flashy and exciting. The acting is all top notch and the humor is done really well.
Green Lantern is unpretentious, probably even one of the most unpretentious superhero movies ever made. It embraces its inherent goofiness and excludes much of the angst and over-seriousness that we seen in other comic book movies like Batman and Spiderman.
The after-credits scene is awesome. A real fan pleaser and hopefully they will make a sequel.

Okay, yes, we get it, the stuff in the trailers isn't in the final cut of the film... But you know what? Who cares?! They've used the trailer to help set up a good movie, and instead, you get an amazing movie! By not using the stuff thats in the trailer, you are way more tense and on edge, because the whole time your waiting for something to happen thats not going to. I thought this also seemed like a good idea, because how many times have you gone to see a scary movie, and it was ruined because all the scary parts were in the trailer, so you knew when things were gonna happen? The second paranormal activity was like that for me, because they showed us all the cabinet doors bursting open and the mom getting dragged downstairs... After seeing the commercial, i could pretty much call when that stuff would happen in the movie, and it ruined the scare for me. The appeal of these movies is that we don't know what the hell is going on! And thats what makes them scary!

Some of the reviews here are the funniest things I've read in years. It's not a faithful adaptation of the book? Really? They go on an on about this even though they've seen the trailer with airships and ninja jumps and DaVinci code secret passages? What a bunch of clowns. This is the Three Musketeers in the Fringe universe and it is delightful. The acting is as good as it needs to be and quite often its better. The action scenes are great fun - particularly the aerial battle which rather strangely borrows slightly from star trek. Not a complaint as it works brilliantly. Go see this unless you are a lunatic who can't abide anything a little enjoyable and inventive. I doubt very much if Mr Dumas is really spinning in his grave. If he could see this I think he would probably have been quite pleased with it.
